Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

As a School Based Trainee (Community Development), you will be based at Moree Community Library and play an entry-level role supporting the delivery of high-quality community development programs and initiatives services across Council’s facilities and assets. This position combines formal study with practical, on-the-job learning to develop foundational skills in community services and uphold Council's commitment to service excellence.

You'll be an integral part of the Community, Culture & Libraries team, gaining essential skills in business administration, cultural services, and community development and supporting enhanced community well-being and engagement

  • Actively work towards completing your Certificate III in Business Services.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of community development and cultural services activities, developing practical, hands-on skills.
  • Provide administrative and customer service support to the Community, Culture and Libraries team.
  • Communicate respectfully and clearly with staff, stakeholders, and community members to foster positive relationships.
  • Undertake work tasks efficiently and professionally, ensuring minimal disruption to the community.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and team members and always ask questions to clarify procedures or expectations.
  • Represent Council positively through reliability, teamwork, and pride in your work.
  • Participate in training, mentoring, and on-the-job learning to strengthen your understanding of community development and Council operations.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

Here’s what you need to be eligible and succeed in this awesome traineeship with the Community, Culture & Libraries team!

  • You must be enrolled to start your Year 11 studies in 2026 at a Moree based high school.
  • You need satisfactory academic results that show you have the literacy and numeracy skills required to successfully complete the study components of the Certificate III qualification
  • A genuine interest in the Business Administration, Cultural Services and Community Development field and commitment to complete a Certificate III in Business Services and at least 800 hours of work.
  • A Connection with Aboriginal people, their families and communities with a strong commitment to the ethos of Indigenous culture and a willingness to promote and support cultural values as a member of the community.

We're looking for students who are:

  • Enthusiastic and eager to learn.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Team-oriented and able to work cooperatively and respectfully as part of a team.
  • Community-minded and respectful of others.
  • Able to set goals (short term and long term) and follow through, showing persistence and reliability.
  • Possessing good communication skills, including listening, asking questions, and providing respectful customer service when required.

If you're successful, here's what you'll need (or need to get):

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC): Required if you are 18 years or older.
  • You need a Class C/Learners/Provisional Licence. If you're under 16, you must be willing to get your Learners when you're eligible.
