As a School Based Trainee (Boggabilla Works ) , you will be based at Boggabilla Works depot and play an entry-level role supporting the delivery of high-quality construction and maintenance services across Council’s facilities and assets. This position combines formal study with practical, on-the-job learning to develop foundational skills in building maintenance, repairs, and construction practices.
You'll be an integral part of your chosen team, gaining essential trade skills and supporting Council's infrastructure.
Will work towards a Certificate II in Civil Construction, supporting maintenance of public infrastructure like roads, pathways and drainage systems.
Actively work towards completing your Certificate II in Civil Construction or Horticulture depending on your desired pathway.
Assist the crew with a variety of tasks to support the maintenance and improvement of local roads, parks, and community spaces.
Learn and apply safe work practices to keep yourself, your team, and the community safe.
Follow instructions from your supervisor and team members, and always ask questions when you are unsure.
Represent Council positively by showing respect, teamwork, and pride in your work.

Here’s what you need to be eligible and succeed in this awesome traineeship with the Boggabilla Works team!
You must be enrolled to start your Year 11 studies in 2026 at a Boggabilla based high school.
You need satisfactory academic results that show you have the reading and math skills needed to complete the Certificate II in Civil Construction.
A genuine interest in Civil Construction plus the commitment to complete the full Certificate II and at least 800 hours of paid training.

You have an awareness of the importance of safety in the workplace and a willingness to follow safe work practices at all times.
You have the ability to set goals (short term and long term) and follow through, showing persistence and reliability.
You work cooperatively and respectfully as part of a team.
You have good communication skills, including listening, asking questions, and providing respectful customer service when required.

General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card)
You need a Class C/Learners/Provisional Licence. If you're under 16, you must be willing to get your Learners when you're eligible.
Before starting the job, you will complete a few essential checks:
A pre-employment medical, which may include drug and alcohol testing.
Verification of your immunisation history (like Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus), and you'll need to keep this current while you work here.
