Attractive weekly salary ranging from $1,222.25 up to $1,405.35 (dependent on level of licence and experience) plus a 15% market allowance.

Job Description
At Moree Plains Shire Council, we are looking for a safe, vigilant, and adaptable professional to join our team as a Water & Wastewater Plant Operator. If you are an enthusiastic team player who is efficient and shows good initiative, this role gives you the opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact every day.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Superintendent Water & Wastewater, you will be at the heart of ensuring the health, safety, and vitality of the Boggabilla and Toomelah communities. You will take real ownership of the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our treatment facilities to ensure local families have access to clean, reliable drinking water.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Conducting daily operations, chemical dosing adjustments, and routine maintenance at the Boggabilla and Toomelah plants.
Carrying out scheduled preventive, electrical, and mechanical maintenance programs across all plants, pump stations, and infrastructure.
Sampling, testing, and analysing water and wastewater quality parameters, documenting results daily in log sheets.
Responding rapidly to operational emergencies like sewer blockages and mains breaks to ensure minimal disruption.
Executing water meter reading schedules, new service connections, asset disconnections, and facility groundskeeping.
Participating in the after-hours on-call roster, working overtime, or deploying across alternative Shire facilities (such as Mungindi) as directed.
Location: Boggabilla Water Treatment Plant and surrounds.
You take pride in practical, problem-solving work that directly protects public health and looks after the local environment. You possess highly developed technical problem-solving skills and can meet tight compliance deadlines under pressure.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
A Certificate III in Water & Wastewater Industry Operations, or a binding commitment to complete the qualification within an agreed timeframe from commencement.
Demonstrated experience in the operation, chemical monitoring, and preventative maintenance of water treatment works or wastewater infrastructure.
Sound literacy and numeracy skills, including the practical capability to execute mathematical volume calculations using standard chemical dosing formulas.
A proven willingness and capability to participate in an after-hours on-call roster, execute directed overtime, and travel across multiple facility sites.
Required Tickets and Licences:
Class MR Driver’s Licence.
General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
