  • Permanent Full-Time 38 hours per week
  • Attractive weekly salary ranging from $1,478.95 up to $1,700.40 (dependent on level of licence and experience).

Job Description

At Moree Plains Shire Council, we are looking for a motivated, responsible, and skilled professional to join our Infrastructure, Water and Wastewater department as a Plumber. The Opportunity

Reporting to the Water and Wastewater Superintendent (as well as our Water and Wastewater coordinators), you will deliver vital maintenance, repair, and construction services to all water and wastewater schemes across the Shire. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to combine technical trade work with community impact, while mentoring the next generation of tradespeople.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Constructing and repairing Council’s water and sewer main reticulation schemes in accordance with relevant plumbing codes and standards.
  • Maintaining and repairing water, Wastewater, and waste pumps, treatment works, and plumbing infrastructures.
  • Undertaking diverse plumbing maintenance across Council-owned buildings and facilities, and assisting the Building Maintenance team.
  • Providing effective supervision, clear instruction, and on-the-job training for Apprentice Plumbers.
  • Operating specialised tools, equipment, and relevant plant safely to complete assigned field tasks.
  • Reporting and assisting with the remediation of environmental pollution events as required, in line with internal procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate data records and participating in an on-call roster, weekend work, or emergency response situations as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

You have excellent time management skills, advanced communication abilities, and the capacity to work efficiently under conflicting time pressures. Because this role is physically demanding, you must have the physical ability to undertake heavy manual tasks (such as repetitive lifting above 15kg, working at low levels, and standing on uneven surfaces) outdoors in dusty or hot conditions.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • A Certificate IV in Plumbing together with a current valid Contractor Licence - Plumbing.
  • Proven literacy and numeracy skills to complete mathematical calculations and maintain accurate operational records.
  • A commitment to inclusive work practices, respect for all people, and constructive reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Required Tickets and Licences:

  • Current Class MR Driver's Licence (Applicants who do not hold this may be considered but must be able to obtain it at their own cost within three months of starting).
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • Up-to-date immunisations for Tetanus and Hepatitis A & B (must maintain currency throughout employment).

Desirable Criteria:

  • Confined Spaces Certification or Fluoridation Certification.
  • Competency operating load-shifting plant (Backhoe, Excavator, Skid Steer, Loaders).
  • Traffic Controller and Implement Traffic Control Guidance Plans Skill Sets.
  • Knowledge of trade waste pre-treatment systems.
