Job Description
At Moree Plains Shire Council, we are seeking a Senior Communications and Media Lead, where your creative vision and strategic influence will shape how we connect with our people and the community of Moree Shire. The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager Risk & Customer Service, you will lead the development and execution of strategic media and communications projects to enhance Council's connection with the community. This is a senior role and is vital for promoting the Shire as a premier place to live, work, and invest while improving councils approach wholistically to strategic comms and media.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Leading strategic initiatives: Develop, implement, and evaluate communications initiatives that align with Council's overarching strategic objectives.
Media management: Act as the primary lead for media relationships and provide high-level strategic advice to the Mayor and General Manager.
Crisis communication: Lead messaging during emergencies and critical incidents as a key member of Council's emergency management team.
Digital leadership: Oversee Council’s website and social media channels, ensuring content is professional, engaging, and aligned with best-practice trends.
Content creation: Produce high-quality written, visual, and digital content while ensuring consistent application of corporate branding guidelines.
Policy & Governance: Develop and maintain communications policies and governance frameworks, evaluating outcomes against key performance indicators.
Team Supervision: Provide professional supervision and guidance across the communications team.
Collaborative Engagement: Work with internal stakeholders and external agencies to deliver effective communications that support a high-performing organisational culture.
The location for this role is the Max Centre in Moree.
You are a professional with a proven ability to think strategically and deliver positive outcomes. You possess the judgement required to maintain confidentiality and the technical skills to produce high-quality multimedia content for a diverse audience .
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, or public relations (or commensurate senior-level experience).
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a meticulous eye for grammar and consistency.
Proven expertise in multimedia production, including operating cameras and editing high-quality photographic and video content.
Demonstrated experience in corporate digital management, including social media platforms and websites.
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (or equivalent) and digital engagement tools.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and work both independently and as part of a team.
Required Tickets, Licences and/or Qualifications:
Current Class C Driver's Licence.
NSW Working with Children Check.
Desirable Criteria:
Experience in ministerial brief writing within a Local Government environment.
General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
Required Clearances and Checks:
National Criminal History Check.
Pre-employment medical, which may include drug and alcohol testing.
