Job Description
At Moree Plains Shire Council, we are looking for safety-conscious, accountable, and collaborative drivers to join our Infrastructure team. Whether you specialise in Truck-Trailer combinations, Jet Patchers, or Water Carts, we have an opportunity for you to contribute to the safe operation and construction of the Shire's vital road network.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Superintendent, you will operate and maintain heavy plant and equipment while ensuring the Shire's public spaces and roads meet the economic and social needs of our community. This role offers a diverse range of responsibilities, from hands-on machinery operation to worksite coordination.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Operating plant (including low loaders and attachments) in a manner that ensures compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2013, the Environmental Protection Act, and TfNSW standards.
Monitoring traffic movement through construction/maintenance sites and advising the Worksite Coordinator of any problems or potential improvements.
Monitoring material quantities delivered to worksites and advising your Ganger or Supervisor of any discrepancies.
Providing accurate and timely information to the Superintendent regarding work progress and other essential day-to-day issues.
Maintaining accurate operational records, including daily running sheets, fuel usage, timesheets, logbooks, and daily diary entries.
Adhering to the legal requirements of the Heavy Vehicle National Law and the NSW Roads Act.
Delivering agreed projects on time in accordance with Council's Asset Management and Depot Management Strategies.
Conducting work tasks with minimal disruption to the community to uphold positive customer relations.
Complying with Council's Code of Conduct, WHS, and EEO policies, and undertaking ongoing training to enhance your technical skills.
Location: Tycannah Street Works Depot, Moree and surrounds.
Desired Skills and Experience
About You
You are a proactive initiative-taker who is physically capable of operating plant for long periods, including the ability to enter/exit machinery safely and withstand vibration while working on uneven surfaces. You have the ability to load and unload machinery competently and the discretion to handle manual tasks such as lifting above 15kg.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
Proven ability to operate Truck-Trailer combinations, Water Trucks, and/or Jet Patchers competently and safely under all conditions.
Well-developed interpersonal skills to give clear instructions and maintain positive interactions with customers and supervisors.
Practical skills to accurately complete site documentation and monitor project budgets.
Practical knowledge of sediment erosion control and an understanding of environmental legislation.
Strong time-management skills to prioritise works and meet deadlines under conflicting pressures.
Required Tickets, Licences and/or Qualifications:
Current Class HR (Heavy Rigid) OR Class HC (Heavy Combination) Driver Licence.
General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
Traffic Controller Cards, including Traffic Controller and Implement Traffic Control Plans.
Desirable Criteria:
Holding or actively working towards obtaining Traffic Control (TCR) or (IMP) certifications.
Required Clearances and Checks:
Pre-employment medical, which may include drug and alcohol testing.
Ability to provide current evidence of vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus.
