Job Description
At Moree Plains Shire Council, we are looking for a proactive, persuasive, and collaborative leader to join us as our Economic Development Coordinator. If you are a strategic thinker with a passion for regional prosperity and business enterprise, we want to hear from you.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager Economic Development, you will be responsible for driving sustainable economic growth across the Moree Plains Shire by designing and delivering targeted programmes, strategic projects, and policy initiatives. This leadership role facilitates the retention and expansion of existing businesses while actively encouraging new investment and enterprise development.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Leading the Economic Development Strategy and associated programmes within Council’s annual budget.
Providing "concierge support services" to prospective investors and existing businesses seeking expansion opportunities.
Fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders, including industry bodies, government agencies, and the Moree and District Chamber of Commerce.
Driving "My Moree" and shop local campaigns to enhance township vibrancy and economic activity across the Shire.
Managing Council’s grants function, providing strategic leadership in developing funding priorities and supporting application administration.
Leading workforce initiatives, including attraction and retention campaigns and identifying emerging skills needs.
Overseeing digital content and marketing activities that showcase Moree as a premier place to live, work, and invest.
Managing portfolio budgets and preparing high-quality reports and workshops for Council and external agencies.
The location for this role is the Max Centre in Moree.
You are a strategic leadership-oriented professional who is accountable and systematic. You have the ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders and exercise sound judgement when handling sensitive and confidential matters.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
Degree or Diploma-level qualification in Economic Development, Business, Commerce, Marketing, or a related discipline.
Demonstrated understanding of economic development principles, specifically regarding the opportunities and challenges of regional economies.
Proven capacity to lead a cohesive team and adapt effectively to changing circumstances.
Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to deliver accurate work under pressure.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and present complex information.
Required Tickets, Licences and/or Qualifications:
General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
Current Class C Driver's Licence.
Desirable Criteria:
Understanding of NSW Government Economic Strategies and available funding streams.
Experience working in or with business groups and government agencies.
Required Clearances and Checks:
National Criminal History Check.
Pre-employment medical, which may include drug and alcohol testing.
