  • Permanent Full-Time Career Opportunity – 35 hours per week

Job Description

At Moree Plains Shire Council, we are looking for a forward-thinking, analytical, and communicative leader to join our Public Spaces division as an Operations Coordinator. If you are a proactive professional with high attention to detail and a passion for maintaining safe, beautiful community spaces, we want to hear from you.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Recreation & Public Spaces, you will be responsible for the effective coordination of day-to-day operations for in-house teams and external contractors. This leadership role is instrumental in delivering Council's Public Spaces Asset Management Plan across Moree and surrounding villages.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing day-to-day operations of Public Spaces teams to ensure assets like parks, town verges, and cemeteries are safe and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Coordinating Public Spaces projects as Project Manager, ensuring they meet agreed scope, cost, and safety targets.
  • Leading asset management activities, including regular condition inspections and driving the adoption of the Civica Asset Management System.
  • Directing and mentoring staff, articulating vision and ensuring adequate operational support for maintenance and renewal works.
  • Overseeing contract administration, including village maintenance contracts.
  • Leading grant applications and evaluating funding sources for infrastructure projects in line with Council's Purchasing Policy.
  • Facilitating community consultation regarding open space proposals and actively participating in meetings to understand local needs.
  • Ensuring safety and compliance by reviewing WHS documentation and conducting quality and safety inspections.

The location for this role is the Moree Plains Shire Council Depot in Moree.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

You are a transparent and accountable leader who thrives in a collaborative environment. You possess the technical proficiency and leadership capability to deliver long-term growth in the Shire's infrastructure assets.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications at Diploma Level in Asset Management, Project Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Relevant work experience, specifically in Public Spaces Asset Management.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Advanced literacy and numeracy skills to prepare complex technical documents and Council reports.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with maintenance crews, community organisations, and government agencies.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in the use of Asset Management Systems.

Required Tickets, Licences and/or Qualifications:

  • General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
  • Traffic Controller Certificate - Prepare Work Zone Traffic Management (PWZ).

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous Local Government experience.
  • Qualifications in Management and/or Team Leadership.

Required Clearances and Checks:

  • Pre-employment medical, which may include drug and alcohol testing.
  • Working with Children Check.
