Job Description
At Moree Plains Shire Council, we are looking for an innovative, proactive, and ethical leader to join us as our Manager Design & Asset Systems. If you have a critical eye for detail and a passion for integrating technical design with strategic asset management, we want to hear from you.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, you will lead the development, planning, and implementation of technical design and asset systems across the organisation. You will manage a multidisciplinary team to ensure local infrastructure is designed and maintained to enhance functionality and community value.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Leading the Asset Systems and Design teams, providing strategic guidance on asset management workflows and integrated planning.
Managing technical design functions, including road safety services, street lighting, and stormwater & floodplain management.
Driving continuous improvement in asset management systems, documentation, and compliance.
Managing asset data systems, including GIS and Reflect, while collaborating with the GIS officer for accurate geolocation.
Providing technical guidance for capital programmes, including scope development, design review, and risk mitigation.
Leading grant applications and negotiations for infrastructure projects to ensure cost-effective and high-quality results.
Developing key partnerships with government and community bodies while mentoring consultants and contractors.
Maintaining industry best practices in design standards and investigation techniques for the Capital Works Programme.
The location for this role is the Max Centre in Moree.
You are a communicative professional with a high level of integrity and a commitment to sustainable infrastructure design. You thrive in a collaborative environment and have the ability to interpret complex legislative changes and operational plans.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
Degree-level tertiary qualification in Engineering Asset Management, Civil & Infrastructure Engineering, or a related discipline.
Extensive practical experience in technical infrastructure design services and asset management.
Proven expertise in managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering critical projects.
Strong financial oversight and budget management skills aligned with organisational priorities.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to provide specialist guidance on complex matters to diverse stakeholders.
Advanced time-management and organisational skills with a high level of accuracy.
Required Tickets, Licences and/or Qualifications:
General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
Class C Drivers Licence.
Desirable Criteria
Previous Local Government experience.
Experience in CAD or GIS mapping software.
Qualifications in Management and/or Team Leadership.
Required Clearances and Checks:
Pre-employment medical, which may include drug and alcohol testing.
