Job Description
At Moree Plains Shire Council, we are looking for an organised, respectful, and approachable leader to join us as the Dhiiyaan Centre Coordinator. As the strategic lead and cultural custodian of the Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre (DAC), you will serve as the primary interface between Council and the Aboriginal community.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager Community, Culture & Libraries, you will lead the professional management, preservation, and development of the Centre’s unique collections. This leadership role ensures that all materials are handled with the highest level of cultural accuracy and respect while driving a culture of service excellence.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Leading daily operations of the DAC to ensure it remains a welcoming and accessible environment for all researchers and community members.
Coordinating meaningful programmes and activities specifically for Aboriginal Elders to foster social connection and community wellbeing.
Overseeing collection management, including cataloguing, classification, and secure storage of artefacts to ensure respect for Aboriginal history.
Assisting the public and researchers with enquiries related to Aboriginal history, culture, language, and family research.
Fostering key partnerships and information sharing with local organisations, community bodies, and the State Library of NSW.
Managing internal workflows, such as stocktakes, procurement, and ensuring corporate records are correctly digitised and filed.
Promoting the Centre by presenting information through community networks and contributing to meetings like NAIDOC and Reconciliation committees.
The location for this role is the Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre in Moree.
You are a collaborative and adaptable professional with established links to the local Aboriginal community. You possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage competing priorities independently with minimal supervision.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
Certificate III in Library and Information Services, Business Administration, or equivalent relevant experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of local Aboriginal community and culture.
Experience in administrative duties, including financial processing, record-keeping, and data entry.
Capacity to deliver community or outreach programmes within a community services environment.
Basic understanding of research methods relating to family history, Aboriginal culture, and language.
Prior experience in public library services or high-volume customer service environments.
Desirable Criteria
Diploma in Library, Information and Cultural Services.
Certificate I in Aboriginal Language/s.
Previous Local Government experience.
Current First Aid Certificate.

Working with Children Check.
