  • Permanent Full-Time Career Opportunity & Casual Positions – 38 hours per week (Permanent) or 'as needs basis' (Casual)
  • Attractive hourly rate from:
    • Permanent Full-Time $1,292.77 up to $1,486.43 per week or
      $34.02 - $39.16 per hour + Penalty rates on weekends
      Casual $42.53 to $48.89 per hour + Penalty rates on weekends

Job Description

The Opportunity

The Landfill Operator assists in the efficient and compliant operation of Council’s Waste Management Facility and nine village landfills. This role supports transfer station development and ensures services meet legislative, environmental and safety standards.

Reporting to the Waste Disposal Coordinator, the position plays a hands-on role in landfill, baling and transfer station operations, plant operation and basic maintenance. The role also supports weighbridge operations, waste classification and revenue collection when required.

Key focus areas of the role include:

  • Operating landfill plant and machinery in accordance with WHS requirements and Safe Work Method Statements
  • Supporting resource recovery and minimising landfilling through recycling and reuse initiatives
  • Maintaining waste facilities in a clean, safe and presentable condition
  • Providing clear direction to site visitors regarding safe and appropriate waste disposal
  • Undertaking inspections and works at village waste facilities as directed
  • Assisting with housekeeping, landscaping and general labouring tasks across waste sites
  • Contributing to Council’s Operational Plan and Environmental and Safety Management policies

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

You are a safety-focused and reliable operator who takes pride in maintaining high standards across waste facilities. You bring practical experience, strong communication skills and a proactive approach to teamwork and community service.

You will demonstrate:

  • Certificate III in Waste Management or willingness and ability to complete on commencement
  • Hands-on experience operating and maintaining plant machinery in a waste, transfer station or similar operational environment
  • Strong communication, customer service and cash-handling skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a practical and reliable approach
  • Sound literacy, numeracy and computer skills, including the ability to learn weighbridge software

Required tickets, licences and qualifications include:

  • General Construction Induction (White Card)
  • Current Class MR Licence
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Verification of competency for Front End Loader/Backhoe (LB), Loader Skidsteer (LS) and Excavator (LE)
  • High Risk Licence – LF (Forklift)
  • Asbestos Awareness Training

Pre-employment checks will include a medical (which may include drug and alcohol testing) and evidence of required immunisations
