Job Description

At Moree Plains Shire Council, we are looking for a professional, organised, and proactive Administration Officer to join our Waste & Sustainability division. If you are a diligent professional committed to high-quality customer service and productive administrative support, we want to hear from you.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Waste & Sustainability Services, you will be essential to the smooth operation of the department. This role provides a critical link between our community and our sustainability operations, ensuring enquiries are handled professionally and administrative workflows remain efficient.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high-level administrative support, including managing correspondence inboxes, drafting professional documents, and assisting with educational resources for local campaigns.
  • Coordinating meeting logistics by scheduling venues, preparing agendas and reports, and taking accurate minutes for Committee and regulatory meetings.
  • Delivering exceptional customer service by politely managing enquiries and processing service requests to provide timely resolutions for residents.
  • Managing department records within Council’s Records Management System (Content Manager) to ensure data remains current, accurate, and accessible.
  • Handling financial administration, such as reconciling recycled material processing, raising purchase orders, and processing external invoices.
  • Supporting operational efficiency by collaborating with other administration officers and assisting the Technical Officer with system and process improvements.
  • Assisting with sustainability projects and occasionally providing relief assistance at the Waste Management Facility, including weighbridge reconciliation.

The location for this role is the Max Centre in Moree.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

You are a communicative team player with strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain composure while managing conflicting tasks. You exercise clear judgement and are committed to maintaining confidentiality in accordance with legislative requirements.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Certificate III in Business Administration and/or relevant work experience in administrative assistance or environmental services.
  • Proven skills in minute-taking, report preparation, and professional correspondence.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and a demonstrated ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Excellent organisational and scheduling skills, with a commitment to meeting set deadlines .
  • The capacity to work effectively both within a team and independently without constant supervision.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous Local Government experience.
  • A current Class C Drivers Licence (NSW).

Required Clearances and Checks:

  • Pre-employment medical, which may include drug and alcohol testing.
